Day 2 - VETSKILLING Roskilde: building, collaborating, and friendships across borders

Updated: Jun 6

Day 2 of the international VETSKILLING project week in Roskilde is complete – and once again, it was a fantastic day! Today focused on both technology and teamwork, as students built weather stations that measure not only temperature but also air quality across multiple parameters.

From concept to working weather station

Students from five different countries were placed into international teams, each group including one student from each country. Their challenge? To build a fully functioning weather station together. This meant:

  • physically assembling the station,

  • writing the software to control the sensors,

  • and finally collecting and displaying the data via an online dashboard.

A hands-on assignment that demanded both technical skill and strong collaboration.

Workshops on teamwork and data presentation

The day kicked off with a workshop by Anne and Mikel, who explored the importance of generic (soft) skills like teamwork, discussion, and shared decision-making – all crucial to the success of a group project.

As teams began to build, new questions arose:“How do you properly collect data?” and “How do you present it clearly and reliably?”To answer those questions, Stefano delivered an additional workshop on data collection and visualization, which proved to be a valuable and practical addition to the project.

More than learning: connections that matter

In the afternoon, the power of international collaboration really came to life: cross-border friendships began to form. A former Danish colleague even dropped by the event – not to participate, but simply to reconnect with friends made in previous projects. What a wonderful reminder of the lasting impact of these kinds of exchanges.

Looking ahead

We’re already looking forward to tomorrow – a day full of new challenges and a cultural outing to the enchanting Land of Legends. It promises to be another day full of inspiration, learning, and connection.

Stay tuned – we’ll continue to share daily updates, photos, and behind-the-scenes stories from this amazing week.
